#-I Want You
The portrait of an Empress is...beautiful. I could go on about Forbidden City all night. From the set to the costumes to the stage movements, it was a thoroughly enjoyable experience and a great show. I'm always intrigued as to how set designers always manage to make use of a single set in a most effective manner. Last night's set was simple, yet it was so convertible it was transformed into more than 5 different settings easily. From covered doors in the summer palace to sparce cold metal in the winter palace, to a posh Chinese restaurant or a bedroom, the set totally captures the mood of every scene perfectly. And then there are all the stage movements. I loved the crossing of present times with reminiscing, how both ages of the Empresses existed in the same stage. The music was also very nicely arranged and intense to say the least. The only part I didn't like was that the Empress was portrayed as a very weak ruler and the entire play only showed the soft side of her rather than she strength. But overall, the show rocked my socks! Plus Joanna was in the cast!! And that's cool.-- Closed --
