#-Lord Percy and his brain the size of a peanut
Wow I haven't been here for almost a month. But what a boring and dragging one at that. In between work and performances, watching the complete Black Adder series and attempting to learn its many hilarious insults seem rather amusing. Stuff like "a plan so cunning you could pin a tail on it and call it a weasel". Haha. Seriously, I'd say it is one of, if not the best British comedy I have watched.
Ian's place is ready but the other roomate has decided not to stay anymore, because, according to her Dad, he doesn't want her staying with guys. So he has to ask another person to take her place for the year. At the same time, Dr Joyce says that there were numerous problems when she went there to buy furniture and check out the place. Not only were the bulbs all blown, but one of the toilet doors open inward, wheareas the other opens outward. You'd think the Brits were intelligent with their arrogance and strong currency and all, but then they prove thenselves otherwise by simple details such as these, and spelling injury I-N-G-U-R-Y. So much for good english.
Well National Day Parade is finally over, which means no more burnt Saturdays trying to dance on a stage as unstable as a boat with a giant elephant on it. Luckily, the real performance went quite well, unlike the previous preview show where it rained before the show and made the entire floor slippery with all the mud and all, making us almost slip more than once. The sad thing is that there is absolutely no record of us dancing on the internet nor on the official website. It's like we didn't even existed. In fact the only proof of our meager existance in the performance was in the programme booklet, which states: "Dim Sum Dollies with Jazz Inc." But the picture there was of Sinclair and Ana.
At least the performance with SJO and Nerissa Campbell at Botanical Gardens was better. No doubt it rained and made the grass wet, but that certainly didn't affect the crowd, because I think more than 4000 people turned up. Well the Salsa item by LADC was a flop, and trying to teach Salsa to 4000 people sitting on wet grass and uneven ground is definitely not a good idea. I recall only seeing 3 couples trying to learn. And it wasn't as if the Salsa performance was good either. All the dancers had different styles, and didn't bother to tweek their styles so that they'll all look uniform, plus some parts of the choreography was not done in synchrony. Upbeat Acapella was good on the other hand. I'd wager they were made to sing patriotic songs in line with the National Day Festival. Heck we had to do Stand Up For Singapore as well, but apparently it was well received by the audience. In fact, the organisers were very pleased with our performance, so maybe next time they'll call SJO more often to perform at their events. Although the sound wasn't good, and it didn't really display Nerissa's capabilities, nor the timbre of the entire orchestra's sound, but the people still liked it. So it was good that now 4000 more people know about SJO, instead of being so low-key like previously.
September looks to be a busy performance month as well. I'll be playing for Jazz By The Beach again, but this time with a combo, which should be with Derek and Akaho...fun. Also some other gigs which I will probably use my Warr Guitar. Looks like I'm really performing all I can before going off. Actually sometimes it's a little sad to think that right now, I'm beginning to establish myself in the jazz scene what with SJO and NDP and all the other gigs, but I'd have to leave it all behind soon.
I pray to God that everything will go smoothly during my trip to UK and the crucial initial adjustment period.
