#-Words of Wisdom

I don't really feel like writing, although I've come across many phrases which I think should be written down for me to refer to in the future, or to keep in my mind, and therefore, they shall be posted here.

Words of wisdom from a family friend:
"Sharing a calling does not mean doing the same thing; your future wife does not need to be a nurse or doctor. It means having the same sense of ministry. For example if you feel God is calling you into medical mission to a rural area and your spouse-to-be is a "city girl" and does not want to go overseas, it would not make sense. I have a friend in Singapore who for many years said he was going into missions; he went to Bible college, thought of going to the Philippines. But after he got his married, the missions conducted a personality test and felt she would not do well in rural places; she does not really want to go to missions and came from a very comfortable home. Today they are still in Singapore. Again if a person feels called to be a pastor and his wife cannot keep confidences or have difficulty relating with people etc. I know a number of people who had to leave the pastorate because the wife cannot take the pressure. A person may not know his/her calling yet, in which case it is helpful to look at giftings and ministry opportunities the person takes up. Also maturity and personality, ability to handle pressure etc."

And, from same person:
"Since I was a teenager, I wanted to be single. But most of the teachingson singleness is not completely biblical for it denies the reality theBible affirms. So this I think is the first step; given your desires, youshould decide you want marriage. That seems to be the posture of Jesusand Paul. You need to ask yourself why you fear commitment when you havethe one commitment that can anchor all your hopes and fears. Second, Iwould warn against romanticism. The girl you marry should share yourfaith, your sense of calling or vocation (whatever that may be) andbelieve in a biblical commitment in marriage. (I sometimes think the daysof families making matches should be returned)."

And another from a friend, which struck me as quite apt:
"And when things don't go your way remember even the snail reached the ark by persevering! Moses waited 14,600 days in the desert before God gave him the permission to lead the Israelites on the final part of their journey."
